Operating at Saint Patrick’s since 1939, the Legion’s objective is to increase the holiness of its members as well as saving souls through personal contact and evangelization. What is the Legion of Mary?
The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin in 1921 by Frank Duff. He envisioned helping Catholic laity to fulfill their baptismal promises and to live their dedication to the Church in an organised structure, supported by fraternity and prayer.
Today, the Legion of Mary is a worldwide association of Catholic faithful, men and women, who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, place themselves at the service of the local church to carry out the Legion's aims.
The website for the headquarters of the Legion, in Dublin, may be found at: www.legionofmary.ie/
Increase the personal holiness of its members through the imitation of the virtues of Mary. Active members attend weekly meetings lasting approximately one hour on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the scavi conference room. The rosary, legion prayers and spiritual readings are recited. Auxiliary members undertake the daily recitation of three legionary prayers and one rosary at home to assist the activities of active members.
Undertake various apostolic works such as: instructing first communion classes; visiting the sick and the lonely; and praying for the living and the dead.
Legion members are under the direction of their parish priest and the guidance of their spiritual director, who attends weekly meetings.
